Great idea for a thread!

Agree with you about Shinagawa being shit for dates - one out of five from me.

Ueno Shinobazu Boat Picnic Date

Good for Spring and Autumn, pack a picnic lunch and a bottle of champagne and hire one of those rowboats (not the GHEY swan) on the pond.

You're the captain, you set the course, straight for the place with the branches hanging over the water at the far end. Say "Arrharrr!" a few times for good measure.

I reckon it would be awesome if you could dress up as a pirate and do it.

Highlights include making sure you don't get busted for drinking in the boat, and the fact that you will both be worn out and looking for a place to "rest" (not to mention a little drunk) when you finally return to land.

I've done this date twice, and both times the day has ended in a hotel.

Illumination and Restaurant Date

I've done two of these over the last couple of weeks (including one last night with an estetician), with rather favourable results. Walking around in the cold evening looking at illumination with a handsome gaijin is something that every girl in Tokyo dreams of, and it doesn't cost anything. The restaurant does, however, so make sure you pick well. I made a mistake and walked out of a restaurant last night with an empty wallet and rather-empty stomach (although the wine was delicious).

If you want to take a bit of a walk it is about 15 mins to the canals and the Tennozu Isle area with TY Harbour being a good place to go.

If you go to TY Harbour do not, and I repeat DO NOT order the chili. Your ass will be unleashing biological weapon hell on your date later in the evening. A couple of hours after returning home from having the chili there the first (and last time) we were seriously considering burning down or at least moving out of our apartment, the smell was that bad...

Outstanding. I like the idea of making her walk the "gang plank" whilst I adjust the misenmast!

Nice thread Kanto!

I'll put something together on a Yokohama date when I have a bit of time.

The one thing that sucks about Roppongi is the lack of hotels.

Quite on the contrary. I can't believe I am giving this away but there is a hotel RIGHT next to Roppongi crossing that always has rooms available at any time of day(according to some mates who use it all the time).

It doesn't really look like a hotel so generally people walk right past it, but it is an essential tool in the arsenal of any accomplished Roppongi cocksman.

One date that I went on with the wife before the kid came along...

SHINJUKU :

near to Kabukicho, there's a building with "Lock up" (horror theme) "Arabian Nights" (fairly obvious), and my favourite of all... "Mysterious" the science fiction themed bar - kind of like a sexy version of the USS enterprise.

Start here, but then make your way (by taxi) to the Park Hyatt hotel - and get yourself to the "New York" bar, awesome view, good music and quality drinks and food (that will burn a hole in your pocket). If you're totally cashed up, then you could even get a room at the Hyatt, if not, there's a bunch of cheap hotels a stone's throw away.

Ok. Let's summarise. For a date spot we need  :
    1. Somewhere to drink
    2. Somewhere to be romantic
    3. Somewhere to fxxx

By area:
    Shibuya scores on all 3
Shinjuku is a bit of a dump, but it does have love hotels somewhere
Yurakucho/Ginza/Shimbashi: great restaurants, but no love hotels
Ueno: Go to nearby Uguisudani for the love hotels, but don't try to walk(I tried it once...)
    Shinagawa: No love hotels

So I usually take girls to Shibuya. I need more than one place on my rotation, so I often go to Yurakucho, but that involves trying to get the girl into a taxi or train to Shibuya or Uguisudani.

Any other recommendations out there?!

On the Shinagawa note, if you head over to Gotanda (15 minutes walk, 2 station by Yamanote, or 5 minutes in a taxi) you'll find a shitload of love hotels there.

The park/rowing boat thing can also be done very nicely in Kichijoji. The street leading up to the park has some interesting shops, and there is a great Italian restaurant right next to the park too. Reserve the table with the park view, or the veranda outside in summer for extra points. The only trouble is lack of proximity of love hotels, but again, you're in a park for fuck's sake!

No date should occur in Shinagawa. There's nothing there.

Believe it or not, that's actually where I got the idea from (kinda). I got it from reading GTO, which is set in Kichijoji, apparently.

Generally, I'd agree. But the very first plan at the top of the page was "The Shinagawa Plan", so I thought I'd add what I could to make it more useful!
Plus, if it doesn't work out, you can go to one of Gotanda's many blow-job bars too ;)

If you go to the Top of Shinagawa Bar and experience the night view--you will retract that statement.

Anyone want to help improve this section by including reviews of specific bars/hotels/etc? I'm prepared to give a few of my secret places away.

Share what you can and help your brother, man

Shinjuku/Nakano mix & match
------------------------------------

In Shinjuku you can enjoy a tasty curry tabehoudai right around the Yamanote station exit (I believe), then in Nakano you have the Broadway Mall (I think that's the name), it's not really popular as far as spots to check out in Tokyo, but it does have alot of quirky little shops. There's like 2 bowling centers really close to each other in Nakano (in case you got a girl that's genki to go, and possibly put a little wager on the game). There's also love hotels in the Nakano area. Shinjuku has the Taiwanese food Seiryumon (which is a really cool looking themed restaurant, even cooler if she's never been). The food is also tasty. I guess depending on what kind of girl you're with, you can mix-and-match what to do.

I am the cheapest date in the world.. My favorite spot is Tsunashima, on the Tsurumi river. (Toyoko line). Leave the station, turn left, then left again once you've found the river. 10 minutes gets you to a nice spot with a view of old bridge supports. Lots of birds, fish, mitten crabs, and no people, unless Tama-chan makes a re-appearance. Hotels are across the river. If that doesn't work, Shibuya is still close.

Yeah, but I said I was a cheap date. Oh, there are also loads of bats there. I love bats.

Damn, now my advice is probably even more useless.

Oh, hotels. I had breakfast at the Park Hyatt Shinjuku this morning. OK food, nasty cold modern hotel. Way too expensive for what it is. A girlfriend was booked there on business, so she had no choice. But if I don't like something, maybe most other girls would.

Went to Trader Vics's in the New Otani Hotel near Akasaka-mitsuke station. A cheap date this place is not...typical price for *one* cocktail is around 1500~1900 yen! :scared-eek: :scared-yipes: *But* it IS a nice bar restaurant to go to, especially if you have a chick that is worth the expense and/or is into all things Hawaiian. Plus, the waitresses wear floral print skirts that are split along the sides to their lovely upper thighs, which provides additional eye candy, just don't let your date catch you eyeballing them! :violence-smack: You can have "The Ultimate Burger" for ¥3000+, which considering its size and the sides that come with it, did not leaving me and my wallet feeling like we had just gotten ass-raped :obscene-sexualbutt:

Final verdict: Not cheap, but the quality of the food/drinks/atmosphere matches the price, which should impress the knickers right off of her...
